Fiscal Cliff Poll: America Very Dissatisfied with Boehner

Turns out that holding 98% of America hostage for the sake of tax breaks for Oprah and other multimillionaires is not looked upon too favorably by most Americans. Wow. Who'd have thought?

In the latest Washington Post / ABC News poll, 45% approved of the deal that was finally made, making permanent the tax breaks for 98% of the country, and having those making over $400,000 per year pay about 3 points more. About 35% disapproved.

But the news is about The Boner.

Orange John Boehner's handling, or mishandling, of the fiscal cliff negotiations were underwater by 20%.

Approval: 31%.       Disapproval: 51%.

President Obama, on the other hand, won an approval rating of 52% for his handling of the deal, with 37% disapproving.

Over the Fiscal Cliff

As expected, the Regressive republicans did their little soft-shoe, their little tap dance, their dog and pony show -- whatever you want to call it -- but they accomplished nothing. All the theater about coming this close to an agreement to keep from going over the "fiscal cliff" is now over. Curtain's going down.

Was anyone fooled by this bad acting for even a moment?

Epic Boner Fail
Thanks to the worst do-nothing Congress in American history, headed by Regressive republican and utter failure John Boehner, taxes will go up for all Americans beginning in a few hours (on Jan 1).  Orange John wouldn't allow the Senate bill -- which had passed overwhelmingly months ago, and would have extended the Bush-era tax cuts to continue for 98% of Americans -- to come to a vote, because he knew it had enough support to pass in the House as well. But he cannot control his far rightwing contingents, who have spent these last several weeks demanding he hold up tax breaks for 98% of the country for the sake of their millionaire friends. They held your tax breaks hostage for those of millionaires.  And poll after poll shows that the majority of Americans knows this.

In addition to taxes being raised, there will be automatic deep cuts to military and discretionary spending.

The spending cuts are the part of the fiscal cliff that the Congressional Budget Office says would be the most damaging to America’s economic growth. It also does not include an increase in the debt ceiling, setting up another fight over the coming months like the one that created the fiscal cliff in the first place.

The theatrics over the last several days were transparent. Regressives wanted Social Security cuts and then dropped that demand; Boehner tried to corral Regressives to vote to raise taxes on those making over a million a year but couldn't even accomplish that.

Of course, this can all be retroactively fixed within the first couple of weeks in the new year when the new Congress convenes. Whether or not these antics will damage the country in the long run remains to be seen.

Big Deal: It Covers 3 Million out of 45 Million Uninsured

I couldn't have put it better than a recent letter to the editor in the Miami Herald:

Rep. John Boehner`s Nov 4 Other Views column, Republicans have a much better plan: The Republican leadership have finally come forward, albeit nine months late and at the 11th hour, offering a plan to address health care reform.

Unfortunately for Boehner, analysis of the Republican alternative by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office determines that the proposed plan will, over 10 years, reduce the number of uninsured -- currently 45 million -- by three million. This projects leaving a full 17 percent of our population lacking coverage by 2019, exactly the same rate of uninsured we have today.

According to the CBO, the Democratic plan will cover 12 times as many people and save approximately $36 million more than the Republicans' "better plan."

Boehner's Latest Boner

Just what is it about republicans?

They can't tell the US Constitution from the Declaration of Independence. They can't recite the Pledge of Allegiance. They send the troops off to unnecessary wars, vote against military pay raises, shut down VA hospitals, and then claim Democrats "don't support the troops." They claim Democrats are "weak on terrorism," yet on 9/11 we had a Republican President, Republican Vice President, Republican House, Republican Senate, Republican Mayor of NY and Republican Governor of NY.

Well here's the latest gaffe from the Boner. He says he's quoting the Constitution, but it's really the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence. Wow. And he's even holding his tiny edition of the Constitution! Maybe too much time in the tanning salon fried his brains...

Michelle Bachman and Virginia Foxx don't seem to notice the screw-up either.
