Far Right Hardliners Against Unconstitutional Arizona Law

Apparently it's not just Democrats and Liberals who know an unconstitutional law when it's staring them in the face.
A growing list of far rightwing politicians, advisers, and commentators disapprove of the law that assumes 2 million US citizens of Hispanic origin are illegal aliens until they prove otherwise. Most say it's unconstitutional.
Mr Hardline I
mmigration Reform himself, Tom Tancredo is against the new Arizona law. So is Karl Rove, Meghan McCain, Florida Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio, former governor Jeb Bush, former Bush spokesliar Dana Perino, South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham, Florida Representative Lincoln Diaz-Balart, and many others.
Michael Gerson, a former Bush speechwriter said, “Americans are not accustomed to the command ‘Your papers, please,’ however politely delivered,” he continued. “The distinctly American response to such a request would be ‘Go to hell,’ and then ‘See you in court.’”

Joe Scarborough, the host of msnbc's Morning Joe said, "It does offend me that when one out of every three citizens in the state of Arizona are Hispanics, you have now put a target on the back of one of three citizens.
“I will tell you that this is un-American,” said the former Republican congressman. “It is unacceptable, and it’s un-American.”

The sheriff of Arizona's Pima County called the law, "racist, disgusting and stupid," and, according to Huffington Post, in his judgment could not be enforced without mandatory racial profiling. Dupnik's reckoning of the legal issue is that he's just as likely to be sued for racial profiling as he is for not doing enough racial profiling, so he's standing pat, and will not enforce the new law.

Guilty Until Proven Innocent

Above: Demonstrating against a new law that makes American citizens carry paperwork on them at all times to prove they are not illegal aliens.

The racist, Mexican-hating rightwing nutjobs in Arizona, starting with their governor Jan Brewer (R-what else?), want to turn their state into a police state. A new law, signed just today, allows police to assume anyone they see on the street is an illegal alien, unless they can produce identification, proof of citizenship or a passport on the spot. You don't carry all that around with you? Can't prove you're not an illegal? Too bad. It's off to jail for you.

A kid summed it up best. "It's going to change our lives," said Emilio Almodovar, a 13-year-old American citizen from Phoenix. "We can't walk to school any more. We can't be in the streets anymore without the pigs thinking we're illegal immigrants."

This typically shameful, racist policy was written by the Regressive Arizona legislature and signed by the Regressive Arizona Governor. President Obama is having the Justice Department investigate to see if this type of law is even legal. He said the federal government must enact immigration reform at the national level – or leave the door open to "irresponsibility by others." President Obama went on to say, "that includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe."

All the far rightwing nutjobs who claim they want less government intrusion into their lives are in favor of this new police state attitude. Let the lawsuits begin.

Republican Jackass of the Week

It's been awhile. But we had to bring back one of our favorite features for this Regressive dimwit.

Apparently we don't have enough relatively attractive, vapid Regressive women like Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin running around making shrill noises. Add one Sue Lowden (R-what else?) who is running against Senator Harry Reid in Nevada.

Of course, being part of the Regressive Party, she is against health care reform. Repeal, rewrite, reload, whatever. Know what her solution is? Barter with your doctor. That's right. Bring a chicken or paint his house for health care. We're not kidding. Watch the video.

The Irony is Lost on Them

A couple dozen rightwing gun nuts -- protesting what they perceive as their vanishing ability to carry guns -- actually brought their guns to a Second Amendment rally in northern Virginia, near Reagan National Airport, the Washington Monument and the Capital. The ironic thing is they were carrying guns while whining about losing their ability to carry guns, and they were doing it on National Park Land. And it was none other than President Obama who recently signed a new law ALLOWING guns to be brought into National Parks. So they were carrying guns where they are only now allowed to bring guns, and protesting the "loss" of their ability to carry guns.

This is as ridiculous as the Teabaggers complaining they are not getting news coverage, and saying it while CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, msnbc, and CNN are covering them.

This is as ridiculous as Teabaggers complaining about how high taxes are, right on the heels of President Obama and the Democratic Congress LOWERING taxes for 98% of Americans, giving tax breaks to small businesses -- at a time when IRS tax refunds are at an all-time high.

The Teabag dimwits just don't get how ignorant they make themselves look.

Above: gun nuts using their Second Amendment rights to protest losing their Second Amendment Rights. Below: anti-gun nut demonstrators.

Over 95% Got Taxes Lowered Last Year

Over 95% of Americans are paying less in taxes this year...
Taxes are at their lowest levels in 60 years...
Tax refunds reached an all-time high this year.

Yet the brainwashed Teabaggers continue to watch the foreign-owned Fox channel and actually believe they are paying HIGHER taxes.

Racist Teabaggers? "Just Isolated Incidents"

We keep hearing how the poor misunderstood Teabaggers are being misrepresented by the mainstream media. "Don't judge us by a few bad apples," they say. "They don't represent us."

We've seen disgusting, disrespectful, racist signs over and over -- at one rally after another -- in all states; the spitting on black Congressmen, the screaming of the N-word and F-word at black and gay Congressmen; the calls to violence ("don't retreat, reload!"); the death threats, the vandalizing of Democratic offices, and the screaming to silence opposition at all of last summer's town hall meetings. All of which belie the "isolated incident" excuse. Watch this short video compilation of Teabaggers' signs and judge for yourself.

Oh, and keep an eye out for all that "racial diversity" in the crowds we keep hearing about.

Taxes are Actually Lower

From Huffington Post:

WASHINGTON — You wouldn't know it by the Tax Day rhetoric, but Americans are paying lower taxes this year, even with increases passed by many states to balance their budgets. Congress cut individuals' federal taxes for this year by about $173 billion shortly after President Barack Obama took office, dwarfing the $28.6 billion in increases by states. And former President George W. Bush's tax cuts expire in January. Obama and the Democrats want to renew only some of them, thus raising taxes for individuals making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000.

Bottom line:
President Obama's tax cuts: $173 billion;
States' increases: $28 billion.
Taxes will rise next year only for people making over $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000, as Obama stressed all through the campaign.

The Quitter's Demands

Every rock star has certain demands that must be met while travelling. Some "must haves" include special food, certain types of amenities, etc. Even former vice president Dick "Go F**k Yourself" Cheney demanded that all TVs in his hotel rooms must be on, and tuned to the foreign-owned Fox Noise channel (presumably to make sure they were saying what he told them to say).

Sarah the Twitter Quitter is no different. Her demands, according to a contract of hers that was supposed to be shredded:
  • First Class airfare or a private jet
  • A Suite and 2 Single Rooms in a deluxe hotel
  • 2 Water bottles with "bendy" straws
  • PRE-SCREENED QUESTIONS collected from the audience in advance
That last one says it all. She doesn't want to stumped with anybody's "gotcha" questions like "what newspapers do you read?"

The Sarah Palin Network

Tina Fey was the guest host last weekend on Saturday Night Live, and you know what that means! Another hilarious Sarah Palin impersonation!

47 World Leaders Join Obama at Nuclear Summit

Just a week after the US and Russia agreed to cut nukes by a full 1/3, leaders from 47 countries around the world join President Barack Obama to diminish stockpiles of nuclear weapons and secure "loose nukes" that terrorists would love to get their hands on.

And on the first day of the summit, more good news: Ukraine has agreed to give up all of its weapons-grade uranium. Two major nuclear milestones in less than two weeks.

And now China has agreed to possible sanctions against Iran.

Conan Returns

All the experts were taken by surprise today, when it was announced that Conan O'Brien will end up hosting a new show, at 11pm eastern Monday through Thursday, on cable channel TBS. Most people thought he'd end up on the Fox broadcast network, even though "clearance" would have been impossible on most of their stations around the country. (Fox network programming ends at 10pm eastern, at which time most of their stations do local news, and after that at 11:00, they run old, syndicated sitcoms, like Seinfeld or Everybody Loves Raymond.) It would be difficult to convince many of their stations to drop those profitable reruns at 11 to let Fox air Conan on their stations. But this is a big coup for TBS.

Congrats to Conan!
Unless Jay Leno sells off a couple of cars and buys TBS, Conan will begin in November.

Dow Back Up to 11,000

For the first time in over a year and a half, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose to 11,000 points. This makes 6 weeks in a row that the Dow has increased, making it the longest "winning streak" in a year.

Notice the downward trend for the last 2 years of the Bush administration (the first yellow and white sections), and how, after hitting its low six weeks into the Obama administration, has been on an upward trend for the past year (the second yellow section).

Historic Nuclear Arms Treaty

From the Associated Press:

President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday signed the biggest nuclear arms pact in a generation. The pact will shrink the limit of nuclear warheads to 1,550 per country over seven years. That still allows for mutual destruction several times over. But it is intended to send a strong signal that Russia and the U.S. — which between them own more than 90 percent of the world's nuclear weapons — are serious about disarmament.

This historic agreement
was exactly what the rightwing's hero, Ronald Reagan, favored 30 years ago. In Reagan's words, nuclear weapons are "totally irrational, totally inhumane, good for nothing but killing, possibly destructive of life on Earth and civilization."
In his memoirs Reagan wrote, "For the eight yea
rs I was president, I never let my dream of a nuclear-free world fade from my mind."

Former secretaries of state George Shultz (R) and Henry Kissinger (R), along with former defense secretary William J. Perry (D) and former senator Sam Nunn (D), embrace this policy. But some of today's rightwing Regressives, like the still-bitter Rudolph Giuliani and Alaska's former half-governor, Sarah the Twitter Quitter, predictably don't agree with President Obama. Worse, by condemning this historic treaty, they are besmirching their party's hero, Ronald Reagan! To figure this out, you have to think like a dingbat. Follow the thoughts as they (slowly) slog through Sarah Palin's mind:

1. President Obama did it
2. He is a Democrat
3. She’s not a Democrat
4. Russia approved it
5. Russia is/was our enemy

6. It cannot be good

There you have it.

162,000 New Jobs!

The US Department of Labor announced today that employers added 162,000 new jobs in March, the HIGHEST amount in three years.

Phantom Interviews... Fox Lies Again

Say it didn't happen again!

It's not enough that, in recent months, the Fox Channel...
  • lied about "huge crowds" at a TeaBagger rally, by splicing in crowd shots from a completely different event (see Blog Post from 11/11/09);
  • used fraudulent statistics to mislead their audience (see Blog Post from 12/8/09);
  • blatantly lied about the US not having any terrorist attacks on George Bush's watch [oh? remember a little thing called 9/11?] (see Blog Post from 11/30/09);
  • and they consistently put a little (D) next to the name of any Republican who gets caught doing something embarrassingly illegal.
Now, their pride and joy, Sarah the Twitter Quitter, is hosting a show on their channel. And they've been running promos touting her "interviews" with rapper LL Cool J and country singer Toby Keith. It's called Real American Stories, but there's nothing real about it. The interviews never happened. Fox tried to get away with simply throwing together old interviews done last year and pretend Alaska's former half-governor did them. And they got caught -- again. Fox had to pull at least one fake interview from the show.

Patriotic Quote

From a recent blog written by columnist and editorial writer Steve Chapman of the Chicago Tribune:

Don’t you miss the days when we had a Republican president who wasn’t afraid to speak up for America in the face of foreign criticism? The kind of president who didn’t feel the United States is always in the wrong?

I have fond memories of when George W. Bush ventured abroad to defend his country: “The United States has been one of the greatest sources of progress that the world has ever known. We were born out of revolution against an empire. We were founded upon the ideal that all are created equal, and we have shed blood and struggled for centuries to give meaning to those words — within our borders, and around the world.”

Beg your pardon?
Oh, my mistake.
Those weren’t Bush’s words. They were the words of President Obama, in a speech in Cairo last June — one stop on what Republicans see as his never-ending “apology tour.”
