It may look like the Boy Scouts were finally joining the 20th Century (now that we're in the 21st), but looks can be deceiving.
"Boy Scouts Consider Lifting the Ban on Gays" is what the headlines have been saying. But a closer look shows that the Boy Scouts of America are not ending discrimination against gay scouts and scout leaders; they are not banning discrimination. They're simply saying they may end the mandatory ban on gay scouts on a national level, allowing each troop in each district to make its own decision.
"We're not requiring you to discriminate, but go ahead if you like," is essentially what they're saying to troops in every state.
This would be like saying the Federal Government frowns on slavery, but hey, if you nice white folks in Mississippi and Alabama want to own slaves, the choice is yours.
Not acceptable.
The Boy Scouts of America must not only end discrimination, it must ban it at all levels.
Through the years, public schools and other entities that follow nondiscrimination policies have stopped sponsoring Boy Scout troops. Picking up the slack were Southern Baptist, Catholic and Mormon organizations that were only too happy to continue the policy of hate and discrimination.

Americans Say Abortion Should Be Legal
New NBC NEWS / Wall Street Journal Poll shows that for the first time

First Lady's "Eye Roll"
The latest make believe
controversy manufactured by the rightwing Foxbots involves First Lady
Michelle Obama, who rolled her eyes during an Inaugration Day lunch with
Regressive republican John Boehner.
What actually happened? According to a lip reading expert, The Boner -- a known chain smoker -- asked The President if he had a chance to have a smoke. (President Obama has long since quit smoking.)
Boehner uses the back of his hand to slap The First Lady on the arm, and says to the President, like a typical misogynist, "somebody won't let you do it," clearly referring to Mrs. Obama.
Watch for yourself and see if this is even remotely appropriate.
It doesn't actually look like she "rolled her eyes" to me, but she did glance in his direction as if to say, "Jackass."
Either way, I don't think she should have done this.
What she should have done was slap him in the mouth, knocking the orange bronzer right off his face. But she's too poised, diplomatic and sophisticated to have done that.
This rude, inappropriate, arrogant, 19th Century, anti-woman, misogynistic yokel attitude is not uncommon with Regressive republican men. As mentioned by Hal Sparks earlier today, this is similar to George Dubya Bush's behavior when he appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman back in 2000 when he was first running to become "The Decider."
During a commercial break, one of Letterman's female producers walked up to the desk to hand him some information, and Dubya, the embarrassment of the Bush family, took the opportunity to reach over, grab the woman's shirt, and proceed to clean his glasses with it. This was so embarrassingly inappropriate that after the commercial break ended, Letterman played back the tape so the viewing audience could see it.
Watch and see if this doesn't tell you all you need to know about this arrogant little scumbag and Regressive men in general.

Reagan and Dubya In Favor of Assault Weapons Ban
So the Regressive republicans in congress continue their temper tantrums, screaming against President Obama's push to reinstate the ban on assault weapons and the need for background checks. But guess who was also in favor of both? Their hero, Saint Ronald Reagan Who Could Do No Wrong. And watch this short clip of George Dubya Bush clearly stating his support for both:
Typical NRA Hypocrisy
This should surprise no one.
A full week after the NRA's stunning silence on the mass gun murders at a Connecticut elementary school, their extremist mouthpiece, Pepe LePew, or whatever his name is, blamed everything but guns for the gun massacres. Yes, we were told 20 first graders were splattered with gunfire because of music, video games from the '90s, television shows, movies, even the President somehow, but not guns and bullets.
That would be like weighing 500 pounds and blaming everything but the Sara Lee cake you continually stuff in your face.
So after putting most of the blame on video games, what did the NRA do just yesterday? Released a violent video game app for iPhones. Shoot at coffin-shaped targets right on your iPhone! Appropriate for ages 4 and up according to the NRA.
If these fringe nutjobs weren't so dangerous, they'd be funny. "Violent video games are the problem! Not guns! So here's a new violent video game for your kids to play!"
You can't make this stuff up.
Hopefully, enough clear thinking members of congress will pass reasonable, common sense legislation that will stem this gun-massacre epidemic. Those who want to protect themselves, and those who have the sick need to kill animals, will still be able to have their guns. Nobody's taking anything away. But we need to ban military style semi-automatic assault weapons, designed to kill dozens of people in seconds. And those 30-round clips and 100-round drums. No self-protector or animal-killer needs those. We need to make sure guns aren't sold to the insane. And we need to close gunshow loopholes.
I have yet to hear what's so "controversial" about those common sense restrictions.
Let's remember that WORDS have never killed anyone. Yet the First Amendment, all about Free Speech, has reasonable restrictions. You can't slander someone or you'll get sued. You can't incite violence. You can't lie in a court of law. There are punishments for those who do.
Yep, it's okay to have restrictions on the First Amendment -- about words -- but not on the Second Amendment -- which is all about guns and bullets that kill over 10,000 Americans every year. This is the twisted logic spewed by the NRA. Funny thing, polls show that the vast majority of NRA members actually want reasonable, common sense gun laws. But the NRA doesn't represent them. It represents the gun manufacturers. It's all about profit and selling a product.

Fiscal Cliff Poll: America Very Dissatisfied with Boehner
Turns out that holding 98% of America hostage for the sake of tax breaks for Oprah and other multimillionaires is not looked upon too favorably by most Americans. Wow. Who'd have thought?
In the latest Washington Post / ABC News poll, 45% approved of the deal that was finally made, making permanent the tax breaks for 98% of the country, and having those making over $400,000 per year pay about 3 points more. About 35% disapproved.
But the news is about The Boner.
Orange John Boehner's handling, or mishandling, of the fiscal cliff negotiations were underwater by 20%.
Approval: 31%. Disapproval: 51%.
President Obama, on the other hand, won an approval rating of 52% for his handling of the deal, with 37% disapproving.
